DISCIPLE ISLAND K5 is what we call the Children's Ministry here at VCFSS.
All children Kindergarten to 5th Grade meet in the "BIG ROOM" for our version of 'Sunday School'...
and yes, keep in mind, "it's not ya momma's Sunday school"!
Our program at VCFSS is designed to reach and teach just about every child's learning style... culture
current... culture relevent!
K-5ers check in with the Island
Checker - they will be assigned to one of three groups...The Dolphins, The
Castaways or the Coconuts. Groups are multi-age. This will be the group the child will Island Hop with!
We've found these groups encourage teamwork rather than
competition. They also encourage relationship building by providing opportunity
for children to interact and build meaningful relationships with new friends not always their own age. And with that 'let me show you the way' attitude from the older kids - leaders find it much easier to work
with the groups.
Studies show that children learn
as much or more- when they're linked with kids of different ages. Our 5th
graders take on the role as Assistant Guides. We've found they relish their helping
role as they lead with their strengths. Disciples making disciples!
So, we're all gathered
in one big room,
have separated into three big groups...now what?
The first 20 minutes is our Opening Celebration.
Here is where
the P.O.D. (Bible Point of the Day) is unveiled and we
enter into WORSHIP with awesome songs that help kids memorize Gods word and reinforce the P.O.D. (Bible Point of the Day). You never know who might
show up to announce the Wacky Holiday of the Week!
Part of the Opening Celebration is choosing the BIG KAHUNA... what
we call the child who is asked to be in charge of collecting the offering each week.
The Disciple Island offering goes to support our partnership with I.A.M. and their work in Spain.
Other times during the year we will put some
of our funds towards Outreach Projects!
So we've Worshiped, done the
Big Kahuna and have the Point of the Day...
now it's time to Island Hop
of course! Each group will rotate to a different Island (room). After 20 minutes groups will hop to the next island. What are the
islands...

BIBLE EXPLORATION... Where
the BIBLE POINT OF THE DAY is brought to life through special bible guests, experiments,
unique and interesting object lessons. This is also a place for groups to explore
and discuss ways to apply what they have learned to their daily lives.
